Classroom Workshops

Kachinas

In addition to theatrical productions for school assemblies, a variety of show related workshops are available to maximize the learning opportunities. Follow up workshops in writing, performance art, history, culture, storytelling and American Sign Language are designed to boost imagination, creative thinking skills and self-confidence, while meeting curriculum goals such as preparing students for writing tests.

Act!vated Workshops are suitable for libraries and family groups (in addition to classroom settings).

Kimberly gives some students some acting tips

Workshops are 30-45 minutes long and may be scheduled for individual classrooms to provide follow-up enrichment after the show. Workshops are included as part of the residency program.

PLEASE NOTE: Half-hour pre-show acting workshops are included with each show at no additional charge. Up to 12 participants per show.

Hands-on, Minds-On

Using the performance as a launching pad, the performer/writer/director will answer questions about putting together a show, performing on stage and the stories from the show. Each workshop is presented in a fun, engaging, interactive style developed to promote learning. We will work with you to meet your educational goals.

Writing

3rd grade - Junior High

The playwright demonstrates methods for expository and/or narrative writing; focusing on priming the pump of the imagination and freeing it from self-criticism, and discovering the magic of words as dynamic tools of self-exploration.

Performance Art

Preschool - Jr. High

With a focus on either onstage activity or backstage, we guide students through the process of putting on a show, helping them build self-expression, self-esteem and teamwork skills.

Storytelling

2nd grade - Middle School

Explore the elements of presenting a narrative in a lively, memorable fashion to an admiring audience. Learn speech and delivery techniques to keep your audience engaged.

American Sign Language - "Hand Play"

Kimberly teaching an ASL workshop

Recommended for mixed ages:
Toddler - Adult

A fun, very hands-on introduction to talking (and singing and playing games) with your hands. Students will learn quickly some basic principles of sign language and some useful signs by means of stories, poems, songs and games they are already familiar with.

History and Culture:

3rd- 8th Grade

Enrich the folktale experience by examining the background of the culture that produced it.

Across the USA

4th grade - adult

The performers have stories to share - not just folktales, but personal accounts of history, sights, experiences and adventures of over 15 years of non-stop travel across America.

Arts and Crafts

Pre-school - Middle School

Puppets from Mu Lan

The actors visit the classroom to discuss the stories and give the students the opportunity to create a craft related to the show. Such activities may include: mask or puppet making, prop building or set design.

Young Author (by Zephyr)

3rd grade - High School

The youngest member of our troupe, 17-year-old Zephyr, has written and published three novels, and he's eager to share his expertise with other youngsters. He'll give them some pointers in writing and publishing their own fiction. Check CreviceTales.com for more information.
