JUNIOR RANGER PROGRAMS
If you are going to a National or State Park this summer, look for Junior Ranger programs. These programs allow you to earn badges by completing required activities, which teach you about the wildlife, plants and history of the park. These special programs are available at National Parks like the Grand Canyon, Carlsbad Caverns, and National Historic Sites like the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Just ask the park ranger for an information booklet and a schedule of activities.
Tips for enjoying National Parks and Monuments
Here are some helpful tips on getting the most out of next summer's vacation.
- Participate in Junior Ranger Programs: These programs are at most National Parks/Monuments and some State Parks and are usually free. They are fun and provide a better way to learn about the park. Be sure to ask the Park Ranger.
- Go to lots of ranger-led programs: These are ALWAYS fun and quite interesting; besides you can talk to the Ranger afterwards!
- Collect lots of information: Most parks have a free park newspaper and lots of free pamphlets, brochures and booklets about the park. I find these useful and helpful to Junior Rangers
