About our Lone Scout
Zephyr is one of 200 Boy Scouts without a troop nationwide. He participates in Scouting as a Lone Scout, a division of Scouting which has been around since 1915. Lone Scouting lets boys who travel, are homebound, or otherwise find it difficult to participate in regular troop activities the opportunity to be Scouts.
In January 2001, Zephyr was interviewed in Providence, RI, by Robert Peterson for an article about Lone Scouts which appeared in the October 2001 issue of Scouting Magazine.
As a Cub Scout Zephyr visited troop 1811 of Walnut Creek, CA. May 2001
In Virginia October 2001 we met Andy Tainter III, an original Lone Scout and chairman of LSF for lunch and learned more about Lone Scouting History.
Meet Matt
Matt, a Boy Scout in Chicago, read about Zephyr in Scouting Magazine and after meeting him online arranged for his troop to hold Zephyr's Arrow of Light Ceremony. Zephyr and Matt had a great time hanging out
together.
Fast Forward! Read about Matt and Z in 2005
Being a Lone Scout the last thing he expected was a ceremony of any type, when he crossed over from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. So, we decided to surprise him.
He didn't know anything about the ceremony until that night, after we had dinner with Matt and his family. He was a little surprised to say the least. Here he is doing a bit of last minute studying.

Here he is getting his shoulder loops added to his new uniform.

Hanging with the Hooglands
We also met some other scouts in the Chicago area, the Hooglands, who are also members of homeschooledscouts. Zephyr spent a couple of days filming videos with the boys and playing.
Zephyr got to serve as color guard for Tim's Troop.
